  • Cap & Trade Tax Price of Postage Stamp? Not according to Sen. Obama!

    Twitter It!

Obama said today that the Cap & Trade “Tax” would only cost about the price of a postage stamp per day. That is not what he said during his campaign. On January 17, 2008 in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, then Senator Obama stated” Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” Obama might be right about comparing energy costs to postage. Economists estimate the Cap and Trade Tax to increase electricity rate for the average home approximately $700.00 to $1400.00 per year by 2012. That would mean the price of a postage stamp would have to climb to about $1.92 to $3.84. The way postage has been increasing each year that could happen. You must know that if home energy costs increase so will industry costs and everyone except liberals realize companies don’t pay these costs; they pass it along to their customers, i.e. you and me.

Oh yes, his new proposal would give some kind of tax credit to the ‘poor ‘to help offset the increase cost in electricity. So how does this work? I pay an extra $700.00 for electricity during the year and then at the end of the year I get a $700.00 tax credit? I doubt it. I’m sure if I am on the government dole, I will get a $700.00 check. If I make $40k to $50k I might get $200 or $300. If I make $80k plus, I will probably get nothing and will probably even pay extra in taxes to offset the $700.00 check to the poor. But what about the increase in everything you buy? Are we going to get a credit to cover those extra costs. If you don’t understand, I will try to explain.

Let’s say your favorite grocery store pays $5,000.00 per month or $60,000.00 per year and your average Utility bill is $300.00 per month or $3,600.00 per year. If my bill increases $700.00 per year, that is about a 15% increase. My utilities would go to about $4,200.00 per year. The store’s utilities would go to about $70.500 per year. How much that affects the price of their products will depend on a number of factors but I guarantee your grocery bill will go up considerably, probably 15% or more. That is just one industry and only if the increase is about 15%. When has the government stayed below their predictions. If they’re predicting an increase of $700.00 to 1,400.00 you can bet it will be $1,400.00+.

Electricity, gas, oil, and anything created in the US with these products, will cost more. How will the companies cope with these increases? They will do the same as always; move off shore if they can. If they can’t move off shore they will just increase prices like the grocery store. Now consider the farmer who grows the food must pay more for fuel and utilities; the canneries pay more for electricity to operate their canning equipment and pass it along to their customers; the companies making the cans pay more for their utilities to make the cans and pass it along, the trucks that carry the products to the cannery and store pay more for fuel; well, I hope you get the idea. Every thing made, grown stored, sold or transported in the US will cost more and the companies who provide these products or services will pass the increases along to their respective customers. Who will reimburse us for these increased costs? I believe if this bill is passes it will be the straw that breaks the proverbial camel’s back and throw us into a depression much ‘Greater’ than the Great Depression.

    Re: H.R. 2454 Waxman-Markey bill

    x Urgent

DON’T YOU DARE VOTE YES ON H.R. 2454 Waxman-Markey bill.
At a time when Unemployment is heading for double digits and the economy is already in the tank, why would anyone but an imbecile want to drive more business off shore by raising their energy costs, not to mention everyone else’s utility bills. If you vote yes for this bill now, you can bet I will vote no on your reelection next year.

On January 17, 2008 in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, then Senator, Obama said his Cap and Trade Plan would make utility bills skyrocket. All this does if force the people who have no control of the carbon emission to foot the bill. What recourse do I have? I cannot make MLG&W or TVA quit burning coal and put up windmills! I can assure you I will have t pay their Carbon Tax. The only thing I can do is vote out the stupid politicians who vote for it.

If politicians had any imagination and common sense, you would realize you get more ‘flies with honey’ i.e. you reduce carbon emission not by penalizing the ones who don’t but reward the ones that do. Give tax credits to the companies and individuals who lower emissions and energy use instead of penalizing those who have no control over what is done.

    Thank you,

    Lefty
