Yes Virginia, There is a God!

DEAR EDITOR:

I am 8 years old. I want to know, is there a god?  My grandmother says, of course there is and his name is Jesus but my mother says she’s not so sure. My next door neighbor says there is no god.  He says god is just a superstition and the universe was created by a big bang.  He says life evolved on its own through evolution. The Jewish couple down the street says his name is Yahweh, and the man at the store at the corner says his name is Allah.  One neighbor is Catholic and another is Baptist.  They both say that you must join their religion or you will be doomed.

I asked my teacher and she said the government won’t allow her to talk about God.  Someone said we couldn’t say ‘one nation, under God’ anymore and we’re not supposed to pray in public.  In history I learned about ‘the crusades’ where the Catholic Church sent men to kill people who did not believe in their God.  During the Second World War an evil man killed millions of Jews because they didn’t believe his way.  And recently a man called Osama Bin Laden killed thousands of what he called infidels who do not believe in his Allah. So which God is real or, are any of them real. And if God is real, why does he make his followers kill others.

Please tell me the truth.

Virginia

Dear Virginia,

Yes Virginia, there is a God.  If you want proof, you just need to look around.  How could a flower evolve into so many colors and styles without a guiding hand?  Evolution is based on the theory that life will evolve and become better naturally and the weaker or less desirable will die.  If that is true, then why are there so many different flowers of so many different colors?  Why didn’t only the best type and best color survive?  Why are there some short people, some tall, some white, some black or yellow? If the only criteria was evolution then there would be one flower, one tree, one animal and all people would be identical.  Oh, I know the atheists will have some logical reason for the differences but is their reasons anymore logical than mine?

And yes Virginia, there is one God.  The Christians believe Jesus is the son of God and is part of God.  Jesus is a Jew. The Jews call him Tetragrammaton or Yahweh. The Christian’s God is the same as Jesus’ God, who is the God of the Jews.  The Jews (and the Christians) believe in the God of Moses.  They believe God spoke to Moses and gave us the 10 commandments to live by.  Who is the God of Moses? He is the God of Abraham, Father of the Jews.

If the Christian and the Jews Believe in the one true God; then what about the Muslims and Allah?  The Islamic Religion started in the Middle East.  Muslims are part of the Islamic religion started by a prophet named Muhammad bin Abdullah.  Muhammad was a Profit who lived in the 6th and 7th centuries.  Muslims believe Allah spoke the revelations (Ayah, the Signs of God) to Muhammad until his death.  Muslims believe in the God (Allah) of Muhammad.  Muhammad worshiped the God of Abraham who was his ancestor and the father of the Jews and Arabs.

So you see Virginia, there is only one true God. His name is Lord, God, Allah, Tetragrammaton,   Yahweh, Jesus, Jehovah among other names.  No matter what you call him, he is the same one true God.

The last question is one I cannot answer. Throughout the ages, millions have been killed in the name of God.   I do not believe a good and kind God who created all the wonders of the universe would want his children to kill each other in his name.  The only answer I can come up with is that these people believe stronger in their religion than they do their God.  If the Christians and Jews follow the teachings of God; one of the Ten Commandments decrees, ‘Thou shalt not kill’. I am not familiar with the Qur’an (the Islamic ‘word of Allah’) but I’m sure there is also a declaration from Allah that condemns killing.

Why are there so many different Religions?  Because religion is manmade.   Which religion is the true religion? Maybe all, maybe none.  Then, are all religions bad?  No, religion is what bonds people together and most accomplish great deeds.  The problem is when people start following rules and rituals instead of looking in their hearts for what God wants.  To paraphrase another editor who wrote to another Virginia about Santa Clause:

No God! Thank God! He lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the hearts of all.

Yes, I borrowed the idea for this letter from a real letter written over 100 years ago to the editor of The New York Sun.  If you would like to read the original letter you can find it at http://www.newseum.org/yesvirginia/.  Below is a picture of the newspaper clipping.

I am just one voice. I have set up this blog site to publish the truth as I understand it. You might ‘see’ a different truth. That is why I encourage you to post your vision. I never edit other’s comments or block them. I want to hear your thoughts and reasoning. The real strength of our great country is the ability for everyone to voice their opinion no matter their position. The only contributions I have requested so far is your word but now I ask for your help. If you would like to join me in starting a P.A.C to help replace these career politicians who refuse to listen to their constituents; please donate a few dollars.

Let’s take our government back!
