Where is all the Religious Leaders’ Outrage on Presidential Cursing?

Maybe I’m just an old prude with outdated values but I believe the President of the United States of America should be Presidential.  Yes, I know the President is only human and I’m sure he says some choice words when he stumps his toe the same as I, but I don’t expect him to say them in public.  I expect my President to respect the office and use restraint.   The only time I want the occupant of the most powerful office in this world to mention the word ‘ass’ is in regards to the animal Jesus rode.   I know the word ‘ass’ and the phrase ‘kick some ass‘ has become tolerated on TV shows but that doesn’t make it appropriate speech for people in leadership positions.

The thing that bothers me most is the lack of outcry by the religious leaders.   How are parents going to tell their children that cursing is wrong when the will just say, “Why,… President Obama does it?”  What’s the President going to say to his own daughters if they get disciplined in school for saying ‘ass or kick some ass’?  Will he say, “It’s OK for daddy to say in on national TV because daddy’s President?”   That is the main reason it is wrong for daddy to say on national TV.

I know the President was being criticized for not showing enough emotion over the gulf oil spill but that is no excuse for him to use such crude language.  Whether you approve or disapprove of his handling of the disaster, this fake outrage does not help his image and just denigrates the Office of the President of the United States.

I have been waiting to post this blog because I assumed the religious community would speak out, but I guess I was wrong.  I guess that’s what I get for assuming. Whether you are Christian, Hebrew, Muslim or other; speak to your Pastor, Priest, Rabbi or other religious leader to condemn this language.  It amazes me there was more outrage at a Senator who called the President a liar (which turned out to be true), than a president cursing on national TV.  Contact your Senators and Representatives to call out the President on this issue.  I have contacted mine.
